This young famed duelist is Judai's newest rival and possibly, his biggest one yet. Edo Phoenix, or Aster Phoenix in the American dub, makes his first debut in episode 53 of this series. He kick-started the second season of Yuugiou GX when he dueled against Judai Yuki at Duel Academia. Before the duel, Edo opened several packs of cards to build a quick deck and lost at the end against Judai as Takuma Saiou predicted. After the duel, he doesn't appear until much later when he defeated Ryo Marufuji in the Pro League using his own Elemental Hero deck.

Edo later challenged Judai to another duel, where he reveals the true monsters of his deck – the Destiny Heroes. Before defeating Judai, Edo tells him about his tragic past and reason for dueling. As a young boy, his father was murdered and left Hero D-series for him. Edo believed that his father entrusted him with these cards in order to pursue justice. He swore to find his father's murderer and retrieve the stolen card from him, which became Edo's main goal.
